Council is continuing negotiations for the release of further land

Council is continuing negotiations with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines for the release of further land at the Challands Street Industrial Estate for industrial development.

In supporting the direction, Mayor Ramon Jayo said that it was critical for Council to have a base land bank of semi ready developable land up its sleeve to entice developers to invest and commence new industry.

“Industry in general is becoming quite wary of zealously regulated town planning applications and we must show our proactivity towards creation of a business friendly environment by reducing red tape and simplifying permitting and licensing processes.”

“Having land ready to purchase and build upon is one way to foster interest,” Cr Jayo said.
