Council Connections - Mayor's Message 3 July 2019

Hinchinbrook Council

3rd July 2019

2019-2020 Budget Allocates Funds to Upgrade Parks, Playgrounds and Foreshore Areas.

Council has been successful in obtaining $2,400,000 from the State Government under its Works for Queensland program to be actioned from July 2019 to June 2021.
Council plans to utilise this funding on foreshore improvements at Forrest Beach, Taylors Beach and Lucinda whilst also assessing the needs at Rotary Park, the Halifax township and the Trebonne township.

The intent here is to enhance the liveability of our district for locals and to facilitate an aesthetically pleasing environment as part of our destination marketing activities.
Council will be seeking ideas from the community and relevant stakeholders prior to finalising any design plans.

Ingham Dirt Bike Club Events

The Ingham Dirt Bike Club will be hosting a Gymkana event Sunday 21 July 2019 at the Ingham Dirt Bike Club grounds, Bruce Highway. The event is open to the public and will be for 4WD vehicles, both registered and unregistered. Additionally there will be a motorbike course. Seniors and juniors are welcome, fees to participate will vary depending on whether vehicles are registered or not.

Future events for the Ingham Dirt Bike Club include an early driver learning event, for minors to learn the basics of driving a motor vehicle. Further information to be provided as details are confirmed.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Under the theme – Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future - NAIDOC Week 2019 will be held nationally from Sunday 7 July and continue through to Sunday 14 July.
Council will be hosting a Flag Raising Ceremony which will include cutting of the NAIDOC themed cake. The Ceremony will take place at 10.00am on Monday 8 July 2019, at the front of the Hinchinbrook Visitor Information Lounge.

Show Time

This week we will be off to the Ingham Show. I urge you all to support our local Show so that the tradition may continue well into the future for the benefit and enjoyment of our future generations.

A special thank you to the Show Committee, assistants and volunteers for once again doing a tremendous job in bringing the Show together. Your efforts are sincerely appreciated. Have fun.
