Strict Lockdown Rules in Place, Lack of Support, Exercise Talisman Sabre Completed and School Competition

Strict Lockdown Rules in Place

With the unfolding COVID-19 restrictions down South, it is important to note that anyone who has been in locked down local government areas of South East Queensland on or since 1.00am Saturday 31 July 2021 must comply with the lockdown restrictions until they are lifted. This includes all members of their household.

The local government areas in lockdown include Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim.

Under lockdown, people will only be able to leave their homes for essential purposes:

  • Obtaining essential goods or services, including healthcare;
    Essential work, school or childcare;
  • Exercising in your local area (within 10km of home) with only one person from outside the household;
  • Caring for a vulnerable person or family member; and
  • Obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination or test.

Lockdown restrictions include:

  • Wear a face mask when outside your home (unless in your private vehicle, eating or drinking, when doing strenuous exercise or if you have a medical condition); and
  • No visitors are allowed to your home (except to provide assistance or support if you need it).

Lack of Support

On Tuesday 27 July 2021 Council was pleased to receive a visit from Lachlan Millar, Member for Gregory, Assistant Minister to Leader of Opposition and the Opposition Leader, David Crisafulli.

Council took the opportunity to raise many current concerns including the lack of support for agricultural commodities as viable green energy sources or biofuture manufacturing and looming trade skill shortages.

However, the main topic discussed was the current uncertainty surrounding continuation of the Waste Levy Subsidy.

Without the Waste Levy Subsidy, introduced by the State Government to afford relief to residents from the actual waste levy, every household receiving a wheelie bin rubbish service will see their annual waste charge rise by at least $75.00.

Exercise Talisman Sabre 2021 Complete

If you were fishing near Forrest Beach Ingham over the past few weeks, you might have seen landing craft from Her Majesty’s Australian Ships Canberra and Choules ferrying troops to shore as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2021 (TS21).

At dawn, on Friday 30 July 2021, the assault began with an amphibious landing at Cassady Beach Ingham with Armoured Vehicles such as the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) and Protected Mobility Vehicles, both light and medium as well as many trucks and other assorted vehicles disembarking off the ships.

Lines of soldiers and vehicles departed the beach as they moved towards the Victoria Mill at approximately 9.30am then to Ingham before seizing the airfield at the Ingham Airport.

The advance towards the Airfield and Ingham was supported from the sky by Bell AH-1Z Viper (US), UH-1Y Venom (US) and Attack Recon Helicopters Tigers (Australian).

Saturday 31 July 2021 saw the Australia Defence Force personnel put on a community Meet and Greet at the Ingham Showgrounds as part of Exercise TS21. There were opportunities for the community to meet various personnel and plenty of activities for the children.

The public feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Council wishes to thank the community for their welcoming spirit and generous nature whilst Australia’s largest military exercise took place in our Shire.
