Australian Citizenship Ceremony, Queensland Recreational Boating Facilities Study 2022 and Safe and Diverse Communities Grants

Australian Citizenship Ceremony

It was a privilege to formally authorise and welcome the Shire’s four newest Australian citizens on Friday 16 September 2022.

The Citizenship Ceremony conducted in Council’s Chambers was attended by State Member for Hinchinbrook Nick Dametto, several Councillors and family and friends of the candidates.

I offer the new citizens my congratulations and wish them the very best for their future.

The Hinchinbrook region values and celebrates our diversity, and Council wishes to congratulate our new citizens and wish them all the best.

Pandora Beads Class

Learn how to create special glass charms for your Pandora jewellery.

You can create a beach scene, florals or abstract designs - you are only limited by your imagination.

Safety glasses, lamps, glass and all materials will be provided.

Classes are a maximum of five people to ensure personal attention.

Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce Business Survey

The Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce has released a survey aimed at local business owners.

If you would like to complete a hardcopy of the survey, they are available at the Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce office on 32 Herbert Street Ingham.

Enameling Beginners Class

Learn the art of firing glass on copper and make your own jewellery.

You will learn: cleaning copper; counter enameling; decorative techniques; sifting; raking; wet packing; overlaying colours; setting and finishing.

All equipment will be provided and you will be able to take home jewellery handmade by you!

Mental Health First Aid Training - Community Expression of Interest

Council has been successful in securing disaster resilience funding for the purposes of volunteer development.

Council is looking to offer community services, clubs, sporting groups and individuals free mental health first aid training in an effort to provide people with the confidence to help.

Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to know when and how to offer first aid for a mental health problem.

North Queensland Business Planning Course

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training have proudly supported the University of Sunshine Coast to deliver The Business Planning Course.

The course is free and designed to provide local business owners with a clear understanding of the key factors that underpin their success and are critical to their long-term survival.

If your business employs fewer than 20 (full-time equivalent) staff and has been operating for at least 12 months, you are eligible to register for this series of workshops and we encourage you to take up this opportunity by registering now to participate.

Queensland Recreational Boating Facilities Study 2022

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is seeking your feedback to assist the Queensland Recreational Boating Facilities Demand Forecasting Study 2022.

The survey will close on Friday 14 October 2022.

The consultant study will forecast the need for new and upgraded public recreational boating facilities in each Queensland council area.

Safe and Diverse Communities Grants

The Safe and Diverse Communities grants program supports small, targeted, community-led projects to increase the capability of multicultural communities to recognise, respond and prevent sexual, domestic and family violence across Queensland.

$1 million has been committed over four years with $250,000 available each year. Applications will be invited for initiatives seeking funding from $10,000 to $25,000.

Grant applications are now open and will close 5.00pm Friday 14 October 2022.

Aussie Bird Count

Register for the Aussie Bird Count taking place from Monday 17 October 2022 to Sunday 23 October 2022.

The Aussie Bird Count is open to everyone – from complete beginners to certified birds-nerds.

To complete the Aussie Bird Count, spend 20 minutes standing or sitting in one spot and noting down the birds that you see.

You will need to count the number of each species you spot within the 20 minute period.

The Aussie Bird Count app has a handy field-guide to help you identify birds.

Little Red in the Hood

Families are invited to a performance of Little Red in the Hood.

Little Red loves her Granny and her neighbourhood!

Her mottos are ‘Keep Australia Beautiful’ and ‘Be a Recycle Super-Hero’. Everyone in ‘the hood’ thinks Red is pretty amazing!

Will Little Red get there first and save Granny from the big bad wolf?
