Day for Daniel, Trebonne Family Fun Day, Early Voting Open, Get Ready Success

Each year the Blue Light Association Hinchinbrook Branch come together to show support for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

This year will be something a little different, not a dance, but a “Slide for Daniel”, so wear red and get wet!

A barbeque and drinks will be available and there will be money prizes for longest slides.  Water will be provided courtesy of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Halifax.

So, come on down Sunday 1 November 2020 4.00pm to 6.00pm, at the Hinchinbrook Blue Light Centre, Argaet Street Halifax to support the Hinchinbrook Day For Daniel.

Trebonne Family Day

Council will hold another fun filled community event aimed at bringing together visitors and members of the community for their enjoyment.

Join in for a free fun family day out to get together, play some games, enjoy the petting zoo, come and ride the ponies and socialise at the park in Trebonne!  There will be children’s activities, live music and entertainment, games, and food stalls.

The event will be held Saturday 7 November 2020 at Leo Park, Trebonne from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.

Please be aware of social distancing when attending.  Under COVID-19 safety regulations, patrons will be required to register their details on entry.

Sports Round Up

What a fantastic effort by the Herbert River Junior Rugby League U12’s and the Ingham Cutters Second Grade in their respective Grand Finals on the weekend.  Unfortunately, both teams were unsuccessful in bringing home a win.

Commendations to the clubs, members, coaches, families and all the team players, you should be extremely proud of your efforts this year.

Congratulations to Ingham Football Club Reserve Grade Women for cementing a spot in the Grand Final.  The Semi Final game was tied 0-0 at the final buzzer, triggering extra time.  It was a nail biter until the winning goal guaranteed their spot in the Grand Final to be played Friday 30 October 2020 at 6.30pm in Townsville.

Well done and good luck!

Hard Rubbish Registrations Open

A reminder that registrations are currently open for this year’s Hard Rubbish Support Program, intended to assist community members who are otherwise unable to remove large items from their home for the purpose of disposal. This program is delivered in collaboration with the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre (HCSC).

Eligibility is based on where Council, or HCSC, has determined the following that:

  • By reason of ill health or other physical or mental incapacity, no occupier of the household, or nearby relatives, are reasonably able to transport the items to one of Council’s resource recovery centres; or
  • The resident is experiencing substantial financial hardship and can therefore not afford disposing of said items at one of Council’s resource recovery centres.

To register, please contact the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre on 4776 1822. Registrations close Friday 30 October 2020, with pick-up services commencing from Monday 2 November 2020.

Mount Fox

Recently Councillors  attended a Public Community Shed Meeting at Mount Fox, and took the opportunity to inspect the roadworks currently being undertaken on Mount Fox Range.

Landslide remediations at several sites is a huge undertaking, including innovative solutions being carried out by the local contractor engaged by Council who is making great progress.

The project is hoped to be completed by December 2020, weather permitting.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) in association with the Hinchinbrook Shire Council.

CÉST LA VIE Exhibition

Students of Ingham State High School are presenting an art exhibition expressing their experiences during this extremely challenging year.

Opening night is Friday 23 October 2020 from 6.00pm, and is a free event with canapes and a cash bar. Please note that RSVP’s are required due to current COVID-19 regulations.

To register your attendance, please contact the TYTO Regional Art Gallery on     4776 4725 or visit the Gallery located at 73-75 McIlwraith Street Ingham (opposite the Library).

Annual Bin Health Check

Commencing in October, Council will be conducting random health checks of household recycling bins placed on the kerb for collection, as part of a Shire wide Bin Tagging Education Program.

Council is seeking to reduce recycling contamination and improve recycling habits of the community. For more information, keep an eye on Council’s Facebook page.

Get Ready Raintree Markets

A successful end to the annual Get Ready Week saw a display at the Raintree Markets last Sunday 18 October 2020.

Council representatives and members of the Emergency Services were on hand to talk to the public about what to do should a disaster event occur.  A huge amount of information, supporting paraphernalia and giveaways were available to act as a reminder for families to start the conversations and prepare their Household Emergency and Evacuation Plans.  There were prizes and relay races, that drew huge smiles from the crowd.

The Get Ready Colouring Competition was also drawn at this event and the winner is Zoe Coventry from Abergowrie State School.  Zoe received a Grab and Go Emergency Evacuation Kit to the value of $120!

Thank you to all those entrants and a big congratulations to Zoe.
