Community Support

Community Recovery Hub

A community recovery hub has been set up in Ingham.

Location:                     TAFE Queensland North, 74 Townsville Road, Ingham

Dates:                         From Tuesday 13 March 2018

Opening hours:           Every day from 8.30am to 4.30pm

This recovery hub will provide information, support and referral to impacted residents. 

Department of Communities Services following a disaster:

Government and non-government organisations provide a range of services following a disaster that may include:

  • information on self-recovery
  • referral to support agencies
  • direct personal support and referral to counselling
  • referral to financial counselling
  • referral to mental health
  • referral to agencies providing material assistance
  • financial assistance and emergency relief funding
  • referral to accommodation and housing services
  • referral to other agencies to assist resilience building
  • long-term support to assist with individual and community resilience through community development strategies and activities

Department of Communities Outreach Services:

Department of Communities Recovery Officers have commenced conducting home visits to assess eligibility and administer:

Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF)

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) is currently undertaking impact assessments throughout the region. If you have incurred damage to your property from the recent flooding event in the Hinchinbrook Shire please call their Customer Service Centre on 13 25 23. Please note that as of Thursday 22 March 2018 DAF representatives are no longer located at the Ingham Community Recovery Hub, all enquiries are to be directed to their Customer Service Centre. 

Other agencies at the Community Recovery Hub:

  • Lifeline - 13 11 14

    Provides counselling and support, including crisis counselling to people affected by disaster.

  • Australian Red Cross - 1300 554 419
    Supports and visits people in communities where a disaster has occurred to check on their wellbeing and make referrals to other agencies.
  • Salvation Army - 13 72 58

    Provides catering services for people after a disaster and during community recovery.

  • Insurance Council of Australia

    Assist with making an insurance claim – 1800 734 621 (see brochure)

    A number of insurance agencies are represented at the CR Hub – CGU, wfi, NRMA, Coles, Suncorp (this also covers AAMI, Apia, bingle, GIO and a number of other insurances)

  • Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre

There is also information regarding Rental Tenancy, welfare housing etc.
