Two new rate payment initiatives will be introduced for Hinchinbrook Shire ratepayers from 1 July 2019.
The initiatives will include a two year waiver on General Rates for all new residential dwellings approved from 1 July 2019 and a Half Yearly Rate Prize being adopted as part of the 2019-2020 Budget.
Mayor Ramon Jayo said that the initiatives would support economic growth in the Shire.
“The rate waiver initiative is aimed at providing economic stimulus throughout the Shire whilst providing an incentive for people to construct new residential dwellings within Hinchinbrook. This is an exciting initiative that I am confident will provide financial assistance to people looking to invest in Hinchinbrook.”
Additionally as an incentive for existing ratepayers, a Half Yearly Rate Prize will be introduced to the Shire.
Cr Jayo said that “Ratepayers who pay their rates in full and on time by the due date of respective twice yearly rate periods will be eligible to participate in the Half Yearly Rate Prize draw. The prize will be $2000, which must be spent locally.”
Council confirmed that Rate Concessions for aged pensioners, sporting associations and not for profit organisations would continue.
“There will be no changes to the current concessions received by elderly ratepayers or community organisations within the Shire, additionally the acceptance of waste vouchers, entitling all Hinchinbrook households four free domestic loads to the Warrens Hill Waste Management Facility will continue in 2019-2020.”
