Please see below message from the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
The Bruce Highway at Yabulu will be temporarily closed over three consecutive nights to allow the removal of the railway overpass north of Greenvale Street. This overpass was damaged by a bridge strike late last year.
These works will be undertaken at night to reduce the impact on traffic. Traffic will not be able to travel on the Bruce Highway between Greenvale Street and Saunders Beach Road during the times of closure:
There will also be some day works involving lane closures before and after these works to assist with site set-up and demobilisation.
On the nights of closure, dependent on site and weather conditions, there will be an opportunity to escort some queing vehicles past the works along a low standard gravel detour. The detour will be available for a limited period, and under the direction of police. Timing for access of the detour will be determined on each night however, is anticipated to be around the middle of the closure period.
Motorists who travel this area at night should assume long delays and consider making alternative plans. Heavy vehicles, motorbikes, caravans or vehicles towing a trailer will not be permitted to join any potential convoy past the works.
The Bruce Highway will be reopened to traffic by 4am each morning. Traffic controllers will be onsite while works are underway to ensure access for emergency services. To keep up-to-date with changing traffic conditions, please visit the QLDTraffic website www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au or call 13 19 40 (available 24 hours, 7 days a week).
