The Right to Information Act 2009 www.rti.qld.gov.au and the Information Privacy Act 2009 www.rti.qld.gov.au aims to make more information available, provide equal access to information across all sectors of the community and provide appropriate protection for individuals' privacy.

The right to information gives you the right to access and amend information held by public sector agencies in Queensland, unless there is a good reason for it not to be provided. Ou have a right to access your personal information held by government under the Information Privacy Act 2009. You have a right to access personal and non-personal information held by government under the Right to Information Act 2009.

This legislation replaces the former Freedom of Information Act 1992.

An application may be made under the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2009 or Information Privacy (IP) Act 2009 for access or amendment to information held by Council.

Before entering the application process, check whether the information required is accessible via other means (e.g. through Council's publication scheme). If so, an application under the RTI Act 2009 or IP Act 2009 should not be lodged.

Applications under the RTI Act 2009 and IP Act 2009 are made by completing the RTI Application form or Information Privacy Personal Information Amendment Application form, providing certain types of information and paying application fees as outlined below. The forms are available from the Queensland Government's Right to Information webpage at www.rti.qld.gov.au.

Below is a summary of the fees and charges associated with lodging an application under the RTI Act 2009 and IP Act 2009. These fees are set by the Queensland State Government and are reviewed annually. Details can be found on the Queensland Government's Right to Information and Information Privacy webpage at www.rti.qld.gov.au/fees-and-charges.
