National Tree Day National Tree Day

Planet Ark set up National Tree Day in 1996 to help combat Global Warming. This is a way that every community member can do something practical about protecting our environment. Hinchinbrook Shire had not previously taken part in this prior to July 2007.

Each year National Tree Day is held on the last Sunday of July.

Schools Tree Day is usually the Friday before National Tree Day.

In the past three years Hinchinbrook Shire Council has taken part. On each occasions trees were planted in the Tyto wetlands to help with rehabilitation. It has grown in size each year.

In 2007 65 trees were planted. In 2009 we planted over 200.
