The previous gallery, opened in June 1999 known as the Gallery Hinchinbrook boasted a modern and highly secure exhibition room with specifications of international standard. Gallery Hinchinbrook was situated in the TAFE / Hinchinbrook Shire Library complex on Townsville Road, Ingham which was also opened in 1999. The Gallery was owned by the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE and was leased and administered by Council, in conjunction with the Friends of Gallery Hinchinbrook Association Inc., a voluntary association.
In March 2011, our new purpose built gallery was opened in the TYTO Wetlands Precinct and is formally known as the "TYTO Regional Art Gallery" with our main gallery named after "John Coburn" a world renowned artist born in Ingham.
The vision for TYTO Regional Art Gallery is to be a focus centre of cultural enrichment, education, inspiration and enjoyment that challenges our community to grow in appreciation of the arts and showcases our cultural diversity.
There is no fee for hiring of the gallery, Council charges a 20% commission on all sales of art from an exhibition. All bookings are to be made through the Art and Cultural Officer at Hinchinbrook Shire Council on phone 07 4776 4613 or email
TYTO Regional Art Gallery is accepting expressions of interest for anybody looking to showcase their work in our wonderful new gallery. Exhibitions typically range in length from one week to a month and you have the option of displaying your work in either our main gallery or our smaller niche gallery. We also accept expressions of interest for any workshops you may wish to bring to the Hinchinbrook Shire, to help educate the local community. If you would like to submit an expression of interest, please download these two forms (Expression of Interest form, Gallery Guidelines form) and either post the completed forms back or send us an email. We will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
TYTO Regional Art Gallery is always looking for new individuals gracious enough to lend their free time toward helping during exhibitions. Whether you would be interested in catering on opening nights or just sitting at the desk greeting visitors, any help you can give is appreciated. A typical shift lasts for three hours with two shifts daily (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) and we are able to work around your schedule. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please enquire at the gallery or download and return the below forms. Thank you!
