Hinchinbrook Shire Council is proud to be a member of the Reef Guardian Council’s. The Reef Guardian Council programme has been designed to recognize and foster environmental stewardship for the Great Barrier Reef from local government and the general community. The programme seeks to raise awareness and encourage best management practice in local government activities, while recognizing that effective protection and management of the Great Barrier Reef requires partnerships at all levels of government, industry and the community. 

There are many things that our Shire does to maintain our status as a Reef Guardian Council. Each year we have a number of community activities which encourages the community to help us take care of our environment.
