CHANGES TO ELIGIBILITY FOR PENSIONER RATE SUBSIDY

A change in Commonwealth Government policy regarding asset test thresholds for Government Rate Subsidies took effect 1 January 2017.

Pensioners who hold a Pensioner Concession Card will continue to be eligible for the Queensland Government Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme and Hinchinbrook Shire Council Pensioner Rate Concession and will receive a rebate on their second 2016/2017 Annual Rate Notice.

Pensioners who no longer hold their Pensioner Concession Card due to the recent Government policy change will not be entitled to receive the Queensland Pensioner Rate Subsidy and Hinchinbrook Shire Council Pensioner Rate Concession and as a result will no longer receive a reduction in rates and charges.

The second 2016/2017 Annual Rate Notice will be issued this week. Please note any changes that may have occurred due to changes in Pensioner Concession Card eligibility.

Council urges any ratepayer experiencing difficulty paying their total rates amount by the due date to contact Council’s Rates Department 4776 4623 and discuss payment plan options.
