Background:
Over the last twelve months when wild weather wreaked havoc across Queensland, State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers helped to restore the lives and homes of those in need.
Queenslanders now have the opportunity to thank these everyday heroes for being there when they needed them the most with National SES Week celebrations kicking off on 7 November, 2009.
Director of SES Mark Dole said that SES week is a valuable opportunity to thank and promote the vital role volunteers play across the country.
“These people dedicate their personal time and effort to put the needs of others ahead of their own,” Mr Dole said.
“The distinctive orange overalls would be clear in the minds and hearts of many Queenslanders and it is hoped that people will take the time to personally thank SES volunteers because in times of crisis we would truly be lost without them.”
SES units across the state will be hosting a variety of events to celebrate including national ‘Wear orange to work day” on Friday 13 November and the State Awards Ceremony on 15 November.
